The Make

This Make is an A5 Card

  • I made this by firstly taking my three shades of Tim Holtz Distress Oxides and applied them to my non-stick matt and sprayed them with water to active them.

The colours I used are

Cracked Pistachio from Tim Holtz set 1

Fossilized Amber from Tim Holtz set 1

Worn Lipstick Tim Holtz set 1

  • Then once dried I sprayed with water and damped off with a piece of kitchen roll to achieve my desired effect. Once dried I got my blending tool and dipped it into the micro glaze and rubbed it all over my background to seal the ink, then wiped over with a cloth to make the background shine.
  • Meanwhile I stamped out my beautiful Imala Elephant on my Eureka Watercolour and Scoring Tablet with my Memento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad which is the type of ink that you should use when colouring with Alcohol Markers. This is the brand I choose to use however you can use whatever you have in your crafty stash if it works alongside your Alcohol Markers.
  • Once I stamped out my image I place a couple of sheets of copier paper under my image when colouring my image not only to help with the colouring however I also use it as a scribble pad to test the colours and make notes of the colour codes so then I can match and use them again if I like them.
  • To achieve a good look on the flower I find using the flicking motion works then when blending the two colours together I go over in a circular motion then you can achieve a good blend.
  • Once I had finished colouring the image, I got my background and stuck it flat to my card blank.
  • With the Elephant I cut the image out and the white outline that was too stark I used a pale grey and just lightly coloured around the image to make it stand out.
  • I then moulded the Ears, so they curved a little and the elephants face to make it look realistic and the tusks I added some Glossy Accents to make them stand out.
  • Then I added several 3D foam pads to the back of the Elephant then secured that to my background.

Product Reviews

I will now just give you a brief outline of each product and as a real-life crafter what I really think of them.

Imala they are unique and one of a kind stamps their stamps are beautiful to work with and nice to stamp with. The stamps are of high quality and they feel that when you take them off the carrier sheets and you use them, these stamps, stamp out images crisply and of a high standard, these stamps are also really large stamps and not to be sniffed at. These are also easy to clean, I have tried several different ways to clean these, baby wipes, stamp cleaners, water wipes and soap and water all seems to work well.

I stamp using my Eureka 101 this is a large stamping and watercolour tablet, this unit is solidly made and comes with a really heavy duty magnet and a score board, scoring tool and pouch to store it in, all are used all the time and I use this for much more I use it to colour on too and to mix paints on the top as well as the designated paint pots in built, this platform holds the most largest stamp including my beautiful Imala Elephant, which is pretty much A5 in size, this platform allows me to stamp in the same place more than once if my image is not as crisp as I wanted this the first time around, for me this is the perfect platform.

Everyone has their crafting staples in their craft room for me, it has to be Foam Pads, Card Blanks and Glue I use I purchase both from create and craft when they have their offers and deals on which if you join their club are generally quite often the glue of my choice would be pinflair, the Card Blanks I have chosen are from Amazon, these are good quality and good value for money. With the Glue I do quite a bit of crafting and the bottles seem to last a long, long time, obviously, you can use what you have, this is just what I have and use.

I find Lynda Chapmans Card is a very nice card not only nice to stamp on, however, it seems that every colouring medium I have seemed to have thrown on this of late this has just impressed me whether this has been Watercolour Pallet, Crayons, Pencils, Oil Pencils, Pens, Pastels, Alcohol Markers, Cosmic Shimmers, Acrylic Paints, Mica Powders, Tim Holtz Ink Pads, memento Ink Pads, this card from Lynda Chapman has just shone. Love love love this.

I am the proud owner of the full set one of the distress oxide ink pads by Tim Holtz, thanks to my husbands great Christmas Gift. I find these ink pads very juicy and what you can achieve with these are amazing. The colours as you can see from the background on my card is very vibrant and the effect that you can accomplish is unbelievable. The colours on the cards are vibrant and I love how they complement the Elephant, yet again they work along with all the other products within my crafty stash. Can’t wait to collect the rest of the collection.

The A5 Glossy Paper I used is lovely to use alongside with the distress oxide, the oxides do go on dull however you can use the distress micro glaze on a blending tool and go over the background and this brings out the colour and makes the paper come alive back glossy again and waterproof. It is just like magic.

Glossy Accents is a clear, three-dimensional gloss medium. Use to accent, brighten, dimensional and magnify distinct areas on any project this is one of my favourite products to use as it gives you that shiny 3D impact for example I used this over my Elephants tusks to bring them to life.

I bought my Spectrum Noir Classique Range Alcohol Markers Several years ago and was a little fearful on how to use them, yes I’m not ashamed to say I was scared as you see all these fabulous colourists out there, I never thought I’d be one of those that could do it, however, after having a lovely chat with a good friend, yes you know who you are. I decided to brave it and give it a go after watching a few you tube videos and looking at some techniques and asking for some feedback from my friend who gave me some sound words of encouragement I kept going and after a few weeks I could colour the Elephant like that. The Spectrum Noir Classique Range have a wide range of colours and tones with re inkers available and accessories so if your pen dries out you can always fill up. These pens are very comfortable to hold and they colour like a dream, you don’t have to apply much pressure to get good colour from these pens, there are a lot of alcohol pens out there that cost a lot more than these, these are very acceptable for achieving great colouring.

For the main body of the Elephant I coloured her in BG2 and shaded her with BG4 then blended back out with the BG2 the pens I use are Spectrum Noir Classique Range.

For the Flowers I have used several different colours, OR1, Shaded with GB5, BP2 Shaded with BP4, BP4 Shaded with BP6, CT2 Shaded with CT3 and BT9.

For the leaves I used CG1and shaded with CG2 & DG2 and shaded with DG3.

This can be achieved with all other Alcohol Pens if you have them at home, if not this is the pens I have at home.

When I am stamping my image to colour with my Memento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad as this is the type to use when I colour with Alcohol Markers. This ink pad always gives me a clear crisp image to colour in with my pens. I do like this ink pad, it’s the one It is my go-to when using these pens and I do have this brand in several colours.

Let me just summarise by saying thank you to everyone that has taken the time to read my first blog, I do appreciate you taking your time reading this and having a look through.  I do hope you have enjoyed this, and you have everything you need to recreate the wonderful Elephant Card. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. She was a delight to make.

Lots of Love Belle
